How to Maintain Your Ceramic Coating

"It's ceramic, it doesn't need washing!" — This is the most dangerous myth in the detailing industry.
While a Ceramic or Graphene coating from Carhub Detailing provides an incredible shield, it still requires proper care to reach its full 5 or 9-year lifespan. Think of it like a high-end watch; it's built to last, but it still needs servicing. In this guide, we'll show you how to maintain that "day one" gloss for years.
The Critical 14-Day Curing Window
Immediately after application, the coating is still "soft." It takes roughly two weeks to reach its full 9H hardness. During this time:
- NO WASHING: Do not use any chemicals or soaps on the car for 14 days.
- BIRD DROPPINGS: If a bird "attacks" your car, gently remove it with water and a clean microfibre immediately. Do not scrub.
The Ongoing Wash Routine
Once cured, your wash routine should be simple but disciplined. We recommend washing every 2 weeks to prevent "clogging" of the coating.
The Right Shampoo
Always use a pH-neutral shampoo without waxes, sealants, or silicones. Added waxes "mask" the coating and kill the water beading.
The Two-Bucket Method
Never use a single bucket. Use one for wash water and one for rinsing your mitt. This prevents dirt from being dragged across the coating.
The Annual Maintenance Service
Even with perfect washing, environmental fallout (iron particles and industrial fallout) can bond to the coating over time. This is called "clogging."
At Carhub Detailing, we provide an **Annual Coating Refresh**. We perform a chemical decontamination to strip away these pollutants and apply a dedicated "topper" that bonds to the coating, revitalizing its hydrophobicity and gloss. This is essential for maintaining your coating's warranty.
Top Maintenance Tips
- Never wash in direct sunlight.
- Use a dedicated microfibre drying towel or air blower.
- Avoid "Touchless" washes with high-pH soaps.
- Use a "Topper" spray every 3-4 months to boost protection.
